There’s far more to the Shops at Dartington than shops!
Take a stroll with us as we unravel some gems for you to discover this spring.
The Dartington Hall Estate is 1200-acre mix of farmland, woodland, homes and commercial spaces. It’s a beautiful place to visit all year round with a jammed packed schedule of courses, talks, festival and events.
There are 25 acres of Grade 11 listed gardens, which are steeped in history and free to explore all year round, from dawn to dusk. Head over to the Visitor Centre and pick up an illustrated garden map and then while away a few hours exploring.
Dogs are welcomed at Dartington Hall, and a recently launched campaign couples our love of our canine friends with protecting and respecting the environment. The #Taketheleadie campaign invites you to get you walking with your dog, on a short lead, and take a selfie with fabulous prizes for the winning photos, announced in August.
After taking in the fresh air and enjoying a walk, head over to the Shops At Dartington for a browse around the shops - all privately owned boutiques offering high-end clothing, luxury leather goods, a super kitchenware shop, Dartington glass, toys, craft centre, stationery, knitting wool shop and local food and drink.
And while you’re at it, pop in and see us! We’re open from 8.30am until 5.00pm and offer every (9.30am – 5.00pm on Sundays). We welcome dogs too, and kids, and have fabulous indoor and outdoor play spaces.
If you fancy throwing some pots, Crazy About Clay will fuel your creative energy. Based here at the Shops, it’s run by Mary Cutchee who holds regular workshops which are, by all accounts, fantastic. Mary’s courses are vey popular so pre-booking is advised.
If you’d rather actually fuel your creative energy, at the Devon Gin School, also here at the shops, you can create your own bespoke gin.
Established in 2013, Devon Distillery was the only Grappa producer in the UK. Since then it has expanded its offerings and in 2018 launched the Devon Gin School. Ginius!
Yearning for the great outdoors? Dartington Dairy is a working farm with herds of dairy goats and Jersey cows. You can book a milking experience with the goats or cows, become a farmer for the day helping Jon and Lynne Perkins with their herds or you can try goat yoga. We’re not sure whether its goats or humans who will be practising their sun salutations, but if you're intrigued take a look here.
Keeping with the cute animal theme, the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm is a fabulous experience for little ones. This family-owned attraction is small enough to provide a friendly and personal service, with enough to keep visitors happy all day. Most enclosures can be entered for close-up stroking, patting, and cuddling of the animals.
Or if it’s your inner Bear Grylls that needs satisfying, Dynamic Adventures CIC offers activities for all ages and abilities such as high ropes, zipwire, archery, abseiling, archery, rock climbing, caving, and canoeing.
Enjoy your day out in Dartington, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
